One day the men were fishing on the reef and saw a large crocodile lying on a floating log. They thought the crocodile would make a much better meal than the few small fish they were catching so they went after it. The crocodile had been on the log for a very long time and was very hungry. Suddenly, he jumped off the log to chase some small turtles and fish he saw but they were too quick for him and they escaped. When he saw the men coming slowly towards him he thought they would be much easier to catch and chased after them. When the men saw the crocodile turn and hurry towards them they paddled as fast as they could to escape and after a little while the crocodile stopped chasing them. The men never hunted the Betay Crocodile again and always left him in peace when they saw him on his floating log.

Robert Savage is a very talented Torres Strait artist who currently resides in Cairns, Far North Queensland. He was born on Thursday Island in the Torres Strait's and his tribe is the Warrkess. He started painting in 1982 at the age of 25. Robert was a well respected body builder and personal trainer at that time and painting was his way of staying in touch with his culture and heritage while work kept him away from his family. Now a gentle giant of a man, Robert's work is still related to dreaming's of his totemic animals living on the coral reefs surrounding his island home. He paints the crocodile, barramundi, and turtle in soft pastel colours full of life and movement in his very distinctive "floating style". Robert has donated many pieces of his work to Cairns Base Hospital where they hang in the corridors near the children's wards "so they can share my dreaming's and get better".
Available in three sizes 50cm, 100cm and 150cm this beautiful Dreaming of life on the Australian Great Barrier Reef is an opportunity not to be missed. The production of each image is personally overseen by Robert and when he is 100% satisfied he then numbers and signs the print. I must point out this is not a "poster" it is a high quality reproduction on canvas, matching the original painting as closely as possible.
